Lake Orta

Human activity has increased the beauty of the enchanting natural environment surrounding Lake Orta (a small lake near Lake Maggiore).

The interest of visitors is roused by the historical village of Orta, whose unique appearance is the result of the Renaissance and Baroque architecture of its mansions and the magnificent gardens. The village is on the shore opposite the lovely little island of San Giulio, where the Romanesque basilica, the Palazzo Vescovile [bishop’s house] and the Benedictine abbey are the main buildings (the island can be reached by ferry or motorboat).

Another tourist attraction – a summer one – is Omegna. In August, on the day of San Vito (the town’s patron saint), Omegna is the venue of a truly amazing event, the World Fireworks Championship. The fireworks are reflected in the lake's waters, creating a spectacular effect.

Mount Zuoli is ideal for pleasant walks through beautiful countryside. A climb to the top of the mountain is rewarded with a stunning view of all Lake Orta.
